Aireon’s Space-Based ADS-B Surveillance to Cover All ASECNA FIRs

DAKAR, SENEGAL – 12 December 2019 – Following nearly two years of collaboration on terrestrial surveillance between the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) and Aireon, the two organizations have concluded the use of space-based ADS-B for surveillance services beginning January 1st 2020 within the six flight information regions (FIRs) of ASECNA: Antananarivo, Brazzaville, Dakar Terrestrial, Dakar Oceanic, N’djamena and Niamey.

India to Start Using Space-Based ADS-B by End of 2019

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) will become the first air navigation service provider (ANSP) in South Asia to start operating space-based ADS-B, after signing a new contract with Aireon. Under the agreement, Aireon will start providing AAI coverage of all ADS-B OUT 1090 MHz flights within the Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata’s oceanic airspace.
