How AI is Empowering Teams Across Aireon

The aviation industry is embracing digital transformation, and Aireon is reimagining its products to provide artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled insights and automation that enhance customer value.

According to Stanford University’s 2026 AI Index Report, the pace of AI advancement now exceeds the pace that organizations and institutions can adapt, transforming the way that humans around the world work, discover, and create. The report highlights that “Industry produced over 90% of notable frontier models in 2025 and several of those models now meet or exceed human baselines on PhD-level science questions, multimodal reasoning, and competition mathematics.” (Stanford, HAI 2026, p.9).

Aireon is staying ahead of trends and embracing AI as a strategic capability, not a shortcut.

“Our customers will soon be expecting AI-enabled products. So, our products will need to incorporate more machine learning and AI technologies, providing more data, deeper insights, and faster results,” says Hank Tseu, Senior Director of Infrastructure and Architecture.

Aireon is taking a measured and thoughtful approach to the use of AI across the organization. For example, AI wouldn’t be appropriate for mission-critical and highly regulated and safety-certified products like our Air Traffic Surveillance data for Air Navigation Service Providers. However, Aireon departments such as Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Product Development, are using it to improve efficiency and decision-making.

“Aireon promotes the responsible use of AI to safeguard security, regulatory compliance, and operational integrity across the entire organization,” says Sridhar Sarella, Aireon Technology Support Specialist.

AI has enabled the Aireon Engineering team to accelerate the development of analytics scripts and tools that support both internal operations and external customer needs. AI is expert at producing code documentation, which makes it easier for developers to review code they are unfamiliar with, then quickly identify any improvement opportunities. AI also excels at automating repetitive, codifiable tasks, such as root cause analysis and data analysis, so our teams can focus on the specialized, high-value work that requires deep human expertise.

“AI dramatically shrinks the time from idea to prototype, enabling myself and my team to perform research and development (R&D) and rapid prototyping of new products or improvements to existing ones,” says Giuseppe Sirigu, Senior Manager, Data & AI.

The team has also created AI tools that streamline processes such as incident compliance agents, to support our internal ticketing system, which shifts time spent on reactive compliance review to proactive quality guidance.

Whenever using AI, the team is still hyper-vigilant of the human validation element. Validation is an essential component of using AI, especially in domain-specific analytics where the likelihood of hallucination is higher. For this reason, a human is always in the loop and used to analyze AI-generated results against domain knowledge before sharing it with any stakeholders. Additionally, agentic patterns use different large language models (LLMs) as validators, refining the output before providing it to the human reviewer.

Aireon uses a least-privilege approach, in which AI platforms or agents are not directly given access to any critical assets and can use tools with read-only permissions to access data and sensitive documents. Aireon’s AI usage has no overlap with any of our EASA-certified data or processes.

As AI continues to evolve, Aireon remains committed to adopting it responsibly, securely, and with human expertise at the center. By empowering our teams with the right tools and governance, Aireon is building a stronger foundation for innovation while continuing to deliver the high standards our customers expect.
