MITRE, CAAS Renew Commitment to Use Aireon Data in R&D Center in Singapore

Aireon, the world’s leading provider of space-based aviation data products and services, signed a one-year contract extension with MITRE to supply its AireonSTREAM data for use in MITRE-Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore’s (CAAS) research and development center.

With this agreement, Aireon strengthens its cooperation with CAAS and MITRE Asia Pacific Singapore (MAPS), supplying its space-based automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) data for Singapore FIR to the center for data analytics purposes. The MAPS facility features real-time and fast-time simulation tools, including a cockpit simulator, wrap-around tower, area and approach air traffic controller workstations, and advanced traffic-flow management tools.

The Aireon data enhances the work being done at MAPS, providing the most accurate and comprehensive look at the airspace in real time. The integrated laboratory contributes to a long-term, collaborative program of research, development, and technology transition to support regional harmonization in aviation and transportation.

“The Asia Pacific region is one of the busiest and most complicated airspaces in the world. Aireon’s data feed provides the most accurate view of traffic throughout the region, including over water,” said Peter Cabooter, Executive Vice President, Customer Affairs at Aireon. “The work being done at MAPS is an excellent example of the collaboration possible between diverse stakeholders to bring about meaningful improvements in aviation safety and efficiency.”
