ASECNA

The Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) has been an aviation safety trailblazer in Africa, launching a series of technology enhancements, including Aireon’s ADS-B data products to boost safety and efficiency for its 18 member states.

ASECNA manages 16.1 million square kilometers of airspace across six Flight Information Regions (FIR): Antananarivo, Brazzaville, Dakar Oceanic, Dakar Terrestrial, Niamey, and N’Djamena. Member states include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, France, Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo.

The Aireon data allows ASECNA to manage traffic flows across its diverse airspace – from the mountains, to the oceans, to contested airspaces and beyond. Aireon provides real-time, consistent, global data to the ASECNA regions.

ASECNA began using Aireon’s data services in 2018, adding AireonFLOW for air traffic flow management and Aireon Locate for search and rescue in 2022. In 2023, Aireon and Metron Aviation integrated AireonFLOW data into Metron’s Horizon platform, providing ASECNA with continuous satellite-derived ADS-B position data and extending flight visibility beyond its airspace.
