Panama – June 7, 2018 – The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) continues to strengthen the group of industry suppliers that collaboratively work on initiatives for the development of aviation in Latin America and the Caribbean, and today welcomes Aireon LLC: the first ever provider of global space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B).
Unlike traditional air traffic surveillance systems, which are costly to deploy in challenging terrain, Aireon’s system will extend real-time coverage with minimal ground equipment and will be fully available as early as 2018 for both Air Navigation Service Providers as well as airlines to optimize infrastructure, provide enhanced situational awareness and improve operational efficiency. Aireon will enable ATS surveillance through ADS-B reports in every airspace around the world, including the vast remote and oceanic parts of Latin America and the Caribbean.
