Aireon, AZANS sign MOU for ATM collaboration.

Building upon their successful relationship, Azeraeronavigation (AZANS), the air navigation service provider of the Azerbaijan Republic, and Aireon have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to further explore applications of Aireon’s high-fidelity, trusted Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) data for more widespread use in the country’s busy airspace.

Under the MOU, signed today at the Airspace World conference in Geneva, Aireon and AZANS will collaboratively work together to develop applications to enable end-users to improve aircraft and flight safety, reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve user experience.

In 2022, AZANS announced plans to use Aireon’s data for air traffic surveillance in Azerbaijan airspace. The Aireon ADS-B data will complement ground surveillance to cover the complete BAKU FIR in Azerbaijan, at all altitudes. The airspace of the Azerbaijan Republic is 165,400 sq. km, 86,600 of which is over land and 78,800 sq. km is above the Caspian Sea. The length route network within the airspace of Azerbaijan Republic amounts to around 11,000 km.
