Irish tracking system could help locate missing flights

Co Clare will be the home of the latest developments in Irish aviation technology as real-time tracking of missing flights begins in the Irish Aviation Authority’s centre in Ballygirreen.

66 low orbiting satellites will search for signals from missing flights’ last known locations and send the information back to the Co Clare centre. The Aireon Alert Global Tracking Service will be based in Ballygirreen and involves authorites from the US, Canada, Denmark, Italy and Ireland.
